A) Language - Study the language below and then practice the conversations.

We meet lots of people every day. If you think about it you will find that it is harder to describe them than you would imagine. Of course, in most cases it is not really necessary to be able to do so. However, sometimes it is very useful if you can describe a certain person in detail. Think of a situation in which you have met a person and you cannot remember his or her name.
In describing people you use a set of features which help you to discriminate them roughly.
First of all, it will be helpful to distinguish their sex: male or female. Then say something about the colour of their hair and skin, their stature and the way they are dressed, etc. It may be very helpful if you can indicate what a person does for a living (profession) or what he or she is especially noted for (famous for).

Listen and repeat.

sex: male; boy, man (guy), (chap/kerel) example: the person was a 22 year old male; a male dog/a he-dog; female; a female dog, a she-dog; girl, woman (lady)

height, build (lengte/lichaamsbouw): tall (lang), small (klein), big (groot/fors), fat, thin, slim, athletic

dress: well-dressed/ill/dressed (goed/slecht gekleed); shabby (armoedig); trousers/pants (broek meervoud) jeans (meervoud), she often wears jeans of a pair of jeans; suit (pak); sportswear (sportkleding); dress (jurk); skirt (rok); sweater (trui); blouse; coat (lange jas); hat; cap (pet); (neck) tie (stropdas); scarf (sjaal, das);

(A) Jazeker. We hebben nog samen geluncht.

(A) Men zegt dat Pam naar onze afdeling verhuist.
(B) Wie is Pam? Ik weet niet wie je bedoelt.
(A) Och, die heb je toch wel eens gezien. Vrij groot en slank, rood haar. Meestal sportief gekleed.
(B) Oh ja, ik zag haar samen met Mary in het restaurant.
(A) Dat kan heel goed. Volgens mij hebben ze samen op school gezeten.

(B) Hoe herken ik hem?
(A) Hm, heeft zo’n beetje normale lengte, donker haar, scheiding opzij. Hij draagt een grijze overjas en heeft een zwarte attachkoffer bij zich.
(B) Denk je dat hij de enige met een koffertje is?
(A) Maak je geen zorgen, ik heb tegen hem gezegd dat hij naar je uit moest kijken. Jullie zullen elkaar vast en zeker zien.

(B) Harry Rumbold.
(A) Is hij die knul waar jij altijd mee tenniste?
(B) Nee, dat is Harry Wilson. Deze Harry werkte vroeger op de Marketing afdeling voordat Joannie ‘t overnam.
     Hij is vrij slank, kalend en zijn oren zijn nogal opvallend groot, draagt tegenwoordig een toupet.
(A) Kan niet zeggen dat ik me hem herinner.
(B) Dat meen je niet.

(A) Heb je nog iemand anders uitgenodigd?
(B) Alleen Elaine.
(A) Ken ik haar?
(B) Zou kunnen. Ze werkt bij ons op de afdeling Opleiding en Training. Robuuste vrouw, rond de dertig. Halflang zwart golvend haar met een pony.
